Thinner and Lighter: iPhone 15 Pro Max to Sport Titanium Frame and Dual Punch Hole Design

Posted on September 14, 2023September 15, 2023 by Baroness Orczy

According to rumors, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a dual punch hole design and be much thinner. It will also reportedly use titanium instead of stainless steel.

Titanium is stronger and lighter than stainless steel, so this change should make the new iPhones feel lighter and more comfortable to hold. The phone will also reportedly feature USB-C for faster charging.

Gesture Controls

There are a ton of ways to interact with your iPhone. Apple offers a handful of pre-built gestures, and there are also third-party apps you can download to add even more functionality.

For example, you can use a two-finger swipe to enlarge the screen or bring your hands closer together to zoom out. You can also access notifications by dragging down from the top of the display, and you can switch between a portrait or landscape view with a two-finger swipe on either side of the camera notch.

In addition to multifinger gestures, the new iPhones offer Reachability and other features that allow you to control your phone with one hand. To create a custom gesture, tap AssistiveTouch and then customize your settings by tapping Custom. When the blue circles appear on the screen, touch and drag them to perform your custom swipe or grab gesture. You can then name the gesture and use it.

Screen Size

The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max both feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays respectively, and it looks like those sizes will remain the same for the new iPhone 15 series. A CAD rendering from 9to5Mac based on specifications sent to case makers shows four iPhone 15 models with the same display sizes, including two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch variants.

But that doesn’t mean the iPhone 15 Pro won’t get any upgrades. According to tipster ShrimpApplePro and fellow tipster OreXda, the new iPhone 15 Pro will still have a Dynamic Island, an always-on feature, a True Tone display, a 2048 x 3096 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and support for HDR content.

Additionally, the Pro-exclusive notch is expected to make way for a dual-punch design that can accommodate notifications, in-app information, and more. But these aren’t the only changes coming to the iPhone 15. It’s also rumored that standard iPhone 15 phones will finally get high-refresh-rate LTPO displays, something that midrange Android rivals already offer.

Body Materials

For years the Pro models of Apple’s iPhone line have been rimmed with stainless steel which makes them sturdier but also heavy. Apple is expected to swap this for titanium this year which is lighter and stronger.

It should make ip 15 pro max feel much more comfortable in the hand and also be less prone to fingerprint smudges. It’s not clear why Apple is making this change, but they have a long history of pushing boundaries with their product design and it would be surprising if they stuck with the same stainless steel frame for the regular iPhone 14 series.

Twitter leaker ShrimpApplePro has a good track record and claims the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have a premium titanium body. This will also help to make them noticeably lighter than their aluminium or stainless steel counterparts. CAD renders have shown the phones to have slimmer bezels around their displays too.

Battery

If you’ve owned an iPhone over the past couple of years, you might have noticed that its battery life is a bit underwhelming. It’s a major factor for people considering upgrading, especially as competing smartphones with larger batteries continue to be released.

A new report suggests that Apple will give its upcoming iPhone 15 and Pro series smartphones significantly larger batteries. The Chinese publication IT Home cites an anonymous Foxconn source and reports that the iPhone 15 and Pro models will feature up to 18 percent bigger units.

The bigger battery should be complemented by improved chip efficiency, which will also help reduce power consumption. The TSMC-manufactured A17 Bionic chip uses a smaller 3nm process, which is a 35 percent improvement over the older 4nm silicon in the A16 chip.

Other rumors point to the iPhone 15’s getting USB-C and Thunderbolt 3. This will allow for faster data transfer and should further reduce the time between charges.
